Early Childhood (ages 3-5)

Early Childhood (ages 3-5)

In our Early Childhood classes, children learn through play and exploring our beautiful 35-acres of natural space as part of our outdoor program. Our inquiry-based program nurtures children’s sense of wonder and creativity. Through observing a child’s play, teacher’s craft meaningful play invitations, share stories or pose questions, which support the child’s learning process. Through joyful engagement in our Early Childhood classes, children develop lifelong capacities for creative thinking, self-confidence and an awareness of others and their natural environment.

Children enrolling in our Early Childhood classes must be able to carry their own backpack, hike, and be potty-trained. Our Wednesday Wanderers Class is a wonderful way to prepare for participation in our Early Childhood classes.

Nature is our “classroom.” While each day brings new adventures, the daily, weekly, and yearly rhythms of our program provide a welcomed sense of security for the young child. Patterns of meaningful work such as washing, cooking, and caring for our natural environment provide a comforting sense of time and structure. The predictability of knowing “what comes next” allows children to be fully present in the moment.

TK/Kindergarten children enjoy extra hours of academic enrichment to ready them for the Focus Classes that make up our Grades Program.
